I enjoyed this story, very much. I loved the growth, it reminded me at times of my favorite parts of Pride & Prejudice and Persuasion. I love when the heroine acts like a lady, even when she isn’t being treated as one. I also loved that the hero messed up and immediately wanted to right the wrong, didn’t let it go. There were many lovable characters as well as detestable ones, they felt well rounded and realistic. I really felt for the heroine any time she was dealing with something difficult (or someone difficult).There were a couple moments that brought me out of the story and made me question if it was historically accurate (no mother/chaperone in the room when the two young single women were meeting gentlemen callers? but it didn’t ruin the story for me) and a few questions at the end, some of the characters I wondered about since there was no epilogue, but nothing huge. I was content with the ending.I’m very much looking forward to the next book, about the hero’s sister.Clean (no sex or swearing)No descriptive violence. There’s mention of war/fighting matches and one sword fight, but nothing graphic or gruesome.HEAStand alone story Rounding up from 3.5I liked this book overall. It plods along at a sedate pace but keeps moving along. There is romance and we even get more than one happily ever after. There is the catty ton, some angst, insults and compliments, more than one villain, multiple suitors, and this romance has a bit of intrigue in a spy subplot. I read other reviews that regretted there wasn't more depth to the intrigue or didn't care for it at all but I believe the author added it to give Stratford extra reasons to visit Eleanor at the Ingrams. The book is first and foremost a romance with just a bit of intrigue.I liked the main characters and the secondary characters as well. I loved that they were loyal even under difficult circumstances. I also liked that we eventually found out why Eleanor had been a ward and received an inheritance. Took a while to get to the bottom of that one. And then it made perfect sense.
