This is my first book by Mary Rundle and although I loved the plot and the MCs I hated the author's dependence on sex to expand the length of the story. Also, there were too many spelling and punctuation errors as well as missing words that I lost count of at the 20% mark.Mary Rundle is a "new to me" author and I was enchanted by the story synopsis - a fantasy with a Dire Wolf MC, another MC who is a hybrid, witches, 7 brothers whose parents and 6 siblings had been murdered by a close relative, fated mates, mpreg - all of these plot elements made me buy the first two books in this series. What a waste!There was no character development, very little background on the Dire Wolves, the other supporting characters were just in the story as padding - other than Jackson's twin Logan, Steel's parents, Jimmy and his wife, the other characters were practically invisible.I had high expectations about this series and was quite looking forward to reading about the exploits of all the brothers and their fated mates in the following books. However there is so much wrong with this first book, including no resolution on the major conflict that resulted in the initial murders of Jackson's parents and half of his siblings. The story ended on a flat note, with the criminals still free and plotting further mayhem, the baby still in the womb, and a few teasers about the MCs in book 2 to entice readers into buying the book.Dire Warning had a lot of promise with an incredible plot but the execution and character development left a lot to be desired. There was too much repetition, and I strongly believe the book could have been considerably shortened by a 60% reduction in the boring sex. How many times can the MCs walk around with erections in full view of everyone?To summarize: This story needed an editor, better character development and flow, excitement that's not dependent on how much sex can be stuffed into 300+ pages, lots of repetition (for example, how many times can the author use the word "bro" without the reader wanting to gag?) The blurb set up an expectation of a wonderful fantasy m/m romance which, unfortunately, the author did not deliver. I don't know if this is due to inexperience since this is the first book in the series, or simply that the author just did not know how to bring the characters and story to life. So much was left on the drawing board that could have been part of this story rather than chapter after chapter of identical, boring sex. Book 1 in this series, Steel's and Jackson's romance, was definitely unfinished. When I got to the end of the book I kept turning the pages thinking I had missed something but all I got was a preview for book 2. On the positive side if all you want is lots and lots and lots of sex in your m/m fantasy stories, with a sprinkling of the plot thrown in like condiments, then this is the book for you.A huge disappointment. So, I didn't realize this was an mpreg series before I bought this book. I'm usually not I to that genre. That being said, I almost gave this book five stars. It is really fantastic. I loved all the characters and can't wait to read more about them.I especially love that the main characters very quickly accept the fact they are fated mates. They don't spend half the book questioning their connection to each other which seems to happen in most fated mate books I've read.The reason this gets four stars instead of five is that book really needs some serious editing. There are a lot of spelling mistakes, typos, and words missing from sentences. It would have really frustrated me if the story wasn't so good. Also, Jackson states that he pretty much raised all his younger siblings, yet later on he had no clue what a onesie is or all the things he will need for his child. That was hard to believe.Even so, I really enjoyed this story. I could barely make myself put it down to go to work, and when I got home I read until I fell asleep with it in my hands. I can't wait to read what happens next.
